Health Minister Declares Hodeidah Governorate in State of Emergency, Due to Spread of Epidemics

The Minister of Public Health and Population, Dr. Taha Al-Mutawakil, announced today, Tuesday, the Hodeidah Governorate afflicted by the increase in the number of patients and the spread of epidemics. He pointed out that the number of suspected cases of malaria during the year 2019 reached one million cases, cholera more than a million cases and dengue more than 76 thousand cases.
The Minister called on international organizations to work quickly to confront the situation in Hodeidah and to work under the item of emergency. He stressed the necessity of emergency intervention by treating the sources that cause the spread of epidemics.
Al-Mutawakil reaffirmed the importance of health education and awareness of citizens in ways to prevent diseases and epidemics. He reviewed the measures taken by the Ministry to deal with diseases and epidemics in the governorate.
He stressed the importance of concerted efforts to eradicate epidemics and provide all aspects of support by organizations to raise the ability to face the epidemic situation and bridge the gap between the actual need and the level of coverage. He asked to keep pace with awareness-raising to avoid practices that contribute to the spread of diseases and epidemics, and to introduce preventive measures to limit their spread.
