Yemeni Detainees Subject to Severe Torture in Saudi Prisons

The Sam Rights Organization said that hundreds of Yemeni detainees in the Saudi prison of Jazan were subjected to torture and ill-treatment at the hands of Saudi soldiers and officers.

 

According to the information revealed by the organization and transmitted by the Middle East Monitor website, Yemeni detainees have confirmed that they have been subjected to severe torture with a number of painful means, including electric shock, crucifixion and solitary confinement for long periods, in addition to being denied communication with their families and relatives, and their suffering due to the lack of health care.

 

Tawfiq Al-Hamidi, Sam’s board chairman, said that among the Yemeni detainees, more than 500 recruits were fighting the Houthis along the Saudi border. He indicated that 28 were arrested of them because of their request to visit their families during Eid Al-Fitr, and the prison also among the detainees were Yemeni fishermen who were detained by the coalition coast guard ,delivered them to Saudi Arabia.

 

According to the human rights organization, at least one detainee died as a result of torture.

 

The organization also called for an investigation into the issue of the enforced disappearance of Yemenis in Saudi prisons.
