France Press: Saudi Air Strikes Destroyed Old City of Sana’a, Rain Aggravates Suffering
France Press shed light on the consequences and damages to some buildings in the Old City of Sana’a due to the unusual rainy season, which is threatening houses of collapsing.
According to experts, the rain threatens distinct buildings with brick facades and white lattice windows.
The agency noted that what is happening to buildings now is not due to rainwater only but also because of Saudi-led war on Yemen. Old Sana’a was subjected to missile strikes that affected the buildings’ foundations and left cracks in them.
The report added that the torrential rains threatened other UNESCO heritage sites in Yemen, including Shibam to the east, which is famous for its “mud-brick skyscrapers.”
An official in Yemen, the Preservation of Historic Cities, Doaa al-Wasai, said that “Sana’a falls and melts in every sense of the word,” She noted that “the roofs of homes were previously damaged by the air strikes that the city was subjected to. The air strikes weakened the foundations of homes.” She added that the “rain worsen the situation.”
The Saudi aggression warplanes targeted civilians as well as historical sites, including the Old City.
Shibam Gets Damaged
The report mentioned Shibam city in Hadramot province, which is included in the UNESCO heritage list, which was called “Manhattan of the Desert,” Whereas four homes were destroyed.
