Health Ministry comments on UN official’s statement about medical supplies to Yemen
Health Minister Taha al-Mutawakil commented on Wednesday on UN official statement about providing the medical supplies to Yemen.
The move came during his latter to response to the statement of the humanitarian coordinator for Yemen Lise Grande, about the acceleration of the humanitarian agencies to help the authorities in Sanaa to confront the COVID-19 in Yemen.
Al- Mutawakil denied Grande’s allegation on providing 520 intensive care’s beds, noting that beds that granted to the health ministry were regular beds.
The minister pointed out that 94 respirators devices were requested two years ago for other diseases to related to obstetric emergencies, diphtheria and cholera, criticizing Grande’s statement on distributing 208 respirators devices.
Al-Mutawakil noted that the agreement, which singed with the United Nations Population Fund and the World Health Organization to distribute 39 respirators devices, has not carried out yet.
The Minister confirmed Yemen needs for 500,000 remote medical testing devices and 10 million others in the second stage to confront the virus, explaining that only 3,400 devices had been received.
He reaffirmed the Ministry’s readiness to communicate with all relevant authorities to provide the necessary facilities to the international organizations.
