5.8 magnitude earthquake hits Northern Iran

A powerful 5.8-magnitude earthquake rocked northern Iran Thursday morning, according to Iran’s Seismological Center.

The tremors were recorded at 04.29 UTC (07.29 Moscow time), the center said.

According to Iranian state television, the epicenter of the quake was located at a depth of 8 kilometres (5 miles) in Razavi Khorasan province.

The town of about 10,000 people is located near the border with Afghanistan.

At the moment, there are no official reports about casualties or damage, caused by the tremor, the head of the region’s emergency department, told state television.
