YPC: UN Disregards Yemenis’ Rights, Complicit with US-Saudi Coalition in Detaining Oil Tankers

Yemen Petroleum Company (YPC) has directly accused the United Nations of not caring about the rights of the Yemeni people to access to the wherewithal of life as much as it does about securing the needs of its organizations’ missions to Yemen with oil derivatives.

This makes it complicit with the coalition of aggression in detaining oil tankers, depriving Yemenis of them, the YPC said in a statement on Saturday.

The statement said that the PALOMAR tanker has arrived at the port of Hodeidah with 4,828 tons of diesel on board belonging to the United Nations.

”Since 35 days, the coalition has been holding 8 ships belonging to the Yemeni people carrying 53,321 tons of gasoline and 145,327 tons of diesel,” it added.

Since August, the coalition has tightened the restriction of navigation to Hodeidah port, preventing food, medicine and fuel vessels from reaching the port and delayed them for months despite being inspected and licensed by the United Nations.

The coalition’s blockade and the detention of vessels are having catastrophic consequences for the lives of millions, paralyzing the movement of vital service sectors, including health, water and the environment, agricultural, fish and industrial production sectors.
