US general: US will go to war with China within two years

US Air Force General Mike Minnehan has sent a note to his subordinates stating  that his country will go to war with China within two years, NBC television reported.

The channel quoted the document as saying: “I hope I’m wrong. My intuition tells me that we will fight in 2025.”

The general believes that China will try to use the US presidential election in 2024 to assert its control over Taiwan.

The channel pointed out that the document, addressed to all commanders of combat units in the US Air Force.

The general also asks his subordinates to inform him by the end of February of the results of the work taken in preparation for hostilities with China. In addition, he urged the unit commanders to be more prepared to take risks during training.

For his part, a representative of the US Air Command confirmed to the channel the authenticity of the memorandum.

“This is a real internal memorandum from General Minnehan,” he said.  “Its directive builds on the basic efforts made in past years to prepare for conflict if all attempts to curb it fail.”

Tensions between the United States and China over Taiwan rose significantly after the visit of former US House Speaker, Nancy Pelosi, to Taipei in early August 2022.

For its part, China condemned Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan, which it considers one of its provinces, and considered the visit a US incitement to Taipei’s separation from Beijing.
