Dutch police clash with protesters over Covid-19 restrictions

At least seven people were injured during clashes between police and protesters at the Corona restrictions in Rotterdam last night, the Dutch broadcasting organization quoted the city’s mayor Ahmed Aboutaleb as saying.

“Several people were injured when the police opened fire, and a number of police officers were injured,” the authority said, while security forces detained at least 20 people.

Police confirmed that there were injuries from the shooting.

According to Aboutaleb, police regained control of the city centre in the early hours of Saturday.

On Friday evening, hundreds of people took to the streets to protest against the rules of social divergence and restrictions on movement.

The demonstrations turned into confrontations with police who fired warning shots into the air and used water cannons to disperse protesters.

Protesters threw stones and explosives at the police, burned a police car and caused other damage.
