Pretending to Be ‘Mediator’ Won’t Help Saudi Regime Evade Compensating People of Yemen?

The United Nations is clearly extending its help to save Saudi Arabia from drowning in Yemen, and it appears to be doomed to failure, according to observers.

After nearly nine years of the aggression against Yemen, the United Nations is returning to launching misleading terms about the Yemen war by claiming that “the war is taking place between Yemeni parties,” which was repeated by UN envoy Hans Grundberg, during his meeting with Saudi and foreign diplomats, Monday in Riyadh, ignoring the fact that the war is on Yemen is an international aggression against the Yemeni People.

The United Nations and its envoy are aware of the consequences of the military intervention of Saudi Arabia and the UAE, and the resulting obligations towards Yemen. This is an issue that Saudi Arabia is trying to evade by claiming a mediating role in the “war on Yemen”.

The United States and Western countries are not as keen to help Saudi Arabia evade its compensation obligations to Yemen, as much as those countries are keen to keep the doors open for opportunities to extort Saudi oil money on charges of committing war crimes and crimes against humanity in Yemen.

In comparison with the state of humiliation Riyadh has been subjected to, following the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi by Saudi intelligence, it can be said that the Kingdom is on the verge of a long path of legal prosecution against the backdrop of coalition crimes against civilians in Yemen, whether bombing crimes or starvation war crimes.

These crimes were confirmed by the United Nations experts and a team of international and regional experts, which was stopped under Saudi-Emirati pressure in July last year. After that, the team demanded that Yemen’s issue be referred to the International Criminal Court due to war crimes and crimes against humanity in Yemen.

Despite that Saudi Arabia obtained the opportunity of the possibility of discussing the settlement between Sanaa and Riyadh, away from the international courts, the United States intervened to prevent Saudi Arabia from signing the peace understandings that were reached with Sanaa, as the rejection of the issue of compensation to Yemen was at the top of the items.

Observers believe that Saudi Arabia is still unable and hesitant to proceed with a peace agreement that takes into account the interests of everyone. It appears that the state of confusion that has accompanied Saudi Arabia since the first days of the war on Yemen, still accompanies the Saudi performance in its approach.
