New scandals hit Aden electricity, plunges city into darkness

The UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) on Friday, revealed new scandals in electricity sector  in the city of Aden, which is under the control of the Saudi-led coalition, Alomanaa daily newspaper reported.

The newspaper said that “the electricity companies suffered significant losses due to the supply of poor fuel to the stations, which led to the damage of the stations significantly and a decrease in their efficiency by at least 30%, despite the repeated messages of the Public Electricity Corporation and its knowledge of the poor fuel that had caused great  damages to all public and private stations from Mahra to the outskirts of Lahj Governorate.”

The newspaper added that “the director of Aden Electricity Salem Al-Walidi communicated with the prime minister to put the issue of fuel on his table, and was surprised by the response of Maeen Abdul-Malik that pro-coalition government is unable to buy quantities of diesel.”

According to the paper, there is a document submitted by four electricity generation companies in the city of Aden about the imminent cessation of electric power plants starting last Wednesday due to the non-payment of their financial dues by pro-coalition government.

The electric power generation companies in the city of Aden, held the pro-coalition government and the Public Electricity Corporation responsible for the security of the workers of the stations and their equipment until the contracts signed with them are complied with.”
