New US Contradiction, Washington’s Envoy for Yemen Warns of Devastating War!

The United States continues the policy of neglecting people, manipulating their rights, and killing them using its tools from time to time. It ignites wars with a green light, and pours oil on the fire while it ignites, then claims to be a benevolent “mediator” seeking to find solutions to reach peace.

On his Twitter account, the US Special Envoy for Yemen, Tim Lenderking, warned of a devastating war in Yemen, calling for an end to provocations in the country, which has been witnessing war for nearly eight years!

Lenderking said, in a tweet by the Near East Office of the US State Department, that he met in Muscat with Omani Deputy Foreign Minister Khalifa Al Harthy and other officials.

According to the office, the US envoy praised the efforts of the Sultanate of Oman to advance peace in Yemen, stressing that “the parties in Yemen must seize the opportunity and cease provocations that risk pushing Yemen back into a destructive war.”

The moves of the US envoy come as international efforts continue to extend a truce that lasted for six months and ended on October 2. It has not been extended until today due to the coalition’s intransigence in meeting the legitimate demands of the Yemeni people, which included the payment of employee salaries and lifting the siege in all its forms.

The warnings of the US envoy are not strange insofar as they express naivety in dealing with the war on Yemen. What Lenderking mentioned confirms that the war continues, whether on the military or economic level.

Lenderking is well aware that the war on Yemen is not a Saudi or Emirati decision, but rather an American-Israeli approach to achieve their interests in Yemen and the Middle East. Nevertheless, he made his statement about the continuation of the war, with his deep knowledge that ending American support for Saudi Arabia would guarantee an end to the 8-year war.

Overt US Involvement in Yemen

The US involvement in the war on Yemen is no longer a secret to anyone, even in the US itself. In a report for the Washington Post written by Sarah Leah Whitson, she said that the US military and political support to its rich clients, Saudi and the UAE, have not only enabled but also encouraged the ongoing war, costing nearly 400,000 Yemeni lives. The Biden administration last year sought approval for $23 billion in fresh weapons sales to the UAE, on the pretense that it had withdrawn from the Yemen war, and $650 million in weapons to Saudi Arabia, on the pretense they would be mere “defensive” weapons.

In early November, the US State Department said through its spokesperson, Ned Price, that Washington will not hesitate to defend its interests and partners in the Middle East, including Saudi Arabia.

According to the American Inkstick Media, the US Air Force has participated in joint exercises with at least 80% of Saudi air squadrons in the aggression against Yemen, and at least four trainings took place on American soil.

The website, which specializes in foreign affairs, indicated that US arms sales to Saudi Arabia create a moral hazard in Yemen. The more Washington sends, the more innocent civilians Saudi Arabia can kill. This creates a vicious cycle in which Washington becomes increasingly entangled in these human rights abuses in Yemen.

Thus, the US envoy for Yemen did not provide what was hoped for from him until today, just as the US itself did not seek to stop its support for Saudi Arabia, so that we would believe such statements that contradict the situation on the ground.

The website noted that the Ministries of State and Defense in Washington failed to assess the number of civilian deaths in Yemen as a result of American weapons.

It confirmed that public opinion supports ending these sales. In a recent Eurasia Group Foundation poll, nearly 70% of Americans disagree with sending arms to Saudi Arabia, regardless of party. Thus, there are human rights, security, and domestic political reasons to stop arms sales to Saudi Arabia until a permanent ceasefire is reached in Yemen.

According to the website, the Biden administration will not change its policy towards Yemen, although doing so would improve US policy in the field of human rights.

The American website stated that the Saudi-led human rights disaster in Yemen is the worst man-made disaster in the 21st century, calling on the United States to immediately stop selling weapons to Saudi Arabia. It also called on the US army to stop joint military exercises after learning how the Saudi army deliberately targets civilians in Yemen.
