Fisheries Authority condemns kidnapping of 139 fishermen by Eritrean forces

Red Sea General Fisheries Authority for condemned on Sunday the kidnapping of 139 Yemeni fishermen by the Eritrean naval forces while they were fishing in Yemeni sea waters in the Red Sea.

In a statement, the authority denounced the crimes committed by the Eritrean navy against the Yemeni fishermen, who were looking for food for their families in Yemeni territorial waters.

The statement indicated that those who were kidnapped were fishermen from the districts of Taiz and Hodeida provinces.

He pointed out that the kidnapped fishermen were taken to a torture camp on the Eritrean coast, and their boats and fishing equipment, which is the only source of livelihood for them and their families, were confiscated.

In its statement, the authority held the United Nations, all humanitarian organizations and the international community fully responsible for these criminal practices against defenseless Yemeni fishermen.

It called for urgent action to stop all repeated criminal acts against all fishermen, and for serious and urgent action to release the detained fishermen and their fishing equipment.
