Magnitude 5 earthquake shakes Tokyo in Japan

An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of five shook eastern Japan on Sunday, public broadcaster NHK said.

The epicenter of the quake was the southern part of Ibaraki Prefecture, east of Tokyo, the NHK added.

Witnesses said the quake shook buildings in Tokyo, but there were no immediate reports of damage.

Japan is located in the Pacific Ring of Fire, a region where a large number of earthquakes and volcanoes are active.
