Earthquake measuring 6.2 hits Philippines

A strong earthquake hit on the early hours of Wednesday morning Mindanao island in the Philippines.
The German GfZ Center for Earth Sciences Research said the earthquake had a magnitude of 6.2 on the Richter scale.

The US Geological Survey confirmed that the earthquake that struck Mindanao at 23:21:59 GMT occurred at a depth of 26.9 km.

The Euro-Mediterranean Seismological Institute stated that the earthquake occurred at the confluence of longitude 125.40 east and a circle of 5.21 north latitude.

There were no reports of material or human losses, and subsequent tsunami waves were not announced.

It is noteworthy that the Philippines is located in an area known as the “Ring of Fire” in the Pacific Ocean, where about 90% of earthquakes occur in the world.

The last major earthquake to hit the country had a magnitude of 7.1 on the Richter scale, during which more than 220 people were killed in the central Philippines in October 2013.
