Civil Defense launches urgent appeal regarding dams, water barriers

The Civil Defense Authority in Sanaa directed on Thursday an urgent call to those in charge of dams and water barriers in various provinces.

In a statement issued today, the authority called for the rapid opening of drainage channels, reducing water in dams and water barriers by 25% of their capacity, and maintaining the required reduction rate to avoid flooding or collapse.

The authority warned citizens not to be present or cross the torrential passages and water estuaries during the rains.

This comes after a number of dams and water barriers in some provinces witnessed collapse and flooding as a result of the water reaching its full capacity, which caused the washing away of agricultural lands and adjacent roads in light of the continued rains in most of the provinces of the country.
