Ankara prepares to direct strike to ‘Gay Marriage’ on its territory

The Constitutional Committee of the Turkish Parliament has adapted a draft resolution  on a constitutional amendment that specifies conditions for the validity of marriage, in a way that prevents same-sex marriage, known as gay marriage.

In the context of the affirmation of the rejection of same-sex marriage, the title of the first item of article 41 of the Constitution, “Protection of the rights of the family and the child”, was changed to “Protection of the family, marriage and the rights of the child”.

The clause states that the family is the foundation of society and adds a condition for the validity of marriage.

The proposal redefines marriage as “can only be established through marriage between a man and a woman.”

The legislative proposal is considered legally acceptable, after Turkey withdrew from the Istanbul Convention, which requires the government to protect homosexuals, as well as women.

Turkey is expected to see LGBTI protests against the constitutional amendment.
