President Al-Mashat congratulates Guterres on United Nations Day

President of the Supreme Political Council, Mahdi Al-Mashat, sent on Saturday a congratulatory cable to Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, on the occasion of the United Nations Day.

In the cable, President Al-Mashat expressed his best congratulations on this occasion, noting that the United Nations represents the general framework for international legitimacy and the collective multi-party action to organize international relations to resolve conflicts and disputes in accordance with justice.

Al-Mashat indicated that the Republic of Yemen, since its accession to the UN organization, has attached great importance to supporting security, peace and development, consolidating justice and defending the principles and foundations for which the organization was established.

The President pointed out that over six years, since the start of “the US-Saudi aggression against Yemeni people”, no clear and just position has been taken to stop the brutal aggression in accordance with the principles, foundations and international agreements upon which the organization was founded.

He expressed his hope that this occasion would be a starting point to stand with the Yemeni people’s will in support of the Supreme Political Council and the National Salvation Government in Sanaa and to take firm decisions to stop the aggression and lift the blockade on the country.

President Al-Mashat affirmed the continuation of cooperation with UN activities in all fields, so as to achieve independence and stability on all Yemeni lands.

24 October has been celebrated as United Nations Day since 1948. In 1971, the United Nations General Assembly recommended that the day be observed by Member States as a public holiday.
